Organized in 1882, the National Association of Power Engineers (NAPE) is the oldest engineering association in the United States. Today, NAPE is dedicated to its mission of providing advancement through educational opportunities to its members.

Becoming a member of the DC 1 Chapter of NAPE. provides full access to the benefits and network of stationary engineers in the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area. The strongest chapter in the nation, DC1 provides a series of free educational seminars in conjunction with monthly chapter meetings and a wide range of recreational and social opportunities for its members throughout the calendar year. Additional benefits of membership include numerous opportunities to network, grow, and learn in our profession.

Chapter Meetings of the NAPE DC1 Chapter are held on the second Wednesday of every month in the Chapter Room at the Alexandria training facility. Meetings include an educational seminar, a light dinner, and the opportunity to network with and learn from others in the profession. Members also enjoy a tuition discount for training offered by DC1’s educational organization, the National Association of Power Engineers Educational Foundation.

Several levels of membership are offered to meet a wide range of needs and interests:

Engineer Membership
This membership is open to individual engineers who elect to join on their own or through their employer. As a member, you have the opportunity to become an active part of the Engineer Community. You will meet senior engineers who are always willing to share their knowledge and experience to assist with problem-resolution as well as information on credible, local suppliers and contractors with whom they’ve worked. In addition, members:

  • Get Significant Discounts on training offered through the NAPE Educational Foundation.
  • Learn about Career Opportunities. Looking for a new opportunity or have jobs you’re trying to fill? Chapter meetings are a great opportunity to share information on job openings throughout our area. In addition, the Job Openings board at our Alexandria training center (where Chapter meetings are held) is another great source to advertise and seek opportunities.
  • Expand their Knowledge of Best Practices and New Trends in the industry. Monthly seminars held as part of each month’s Chapter Meeting feature experts with the knowledge to share on proven and emerging tips and trends in the industry.
  • Keep Current with New Legislation impacting the industry, such as information on new requirements issued by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regarding CFC, indoor air quality, and energy regulations.

Associate Membership
This level of membership is open to companies interested in generating greater awareness of their services throughout the local engineering community. Many of the benefits offered to Engineer Members are extended to Associate Members as well. Additional benefits include:

  • Great opportunity to share job openings on a flyer to be displayed at the NAPE Educational building.
  • Through participation in monthly Chapter Meetings, you can network with potential customers and strengthen existing relationships with member engineers.
  • The opportunity to provide an educational seminar and highlight your company as a sponsor of a monthly Chapter Meeting.
  • Advance notice of opportunities to network and entertain clients at special events organized throughout the year.

Corporate Membership
: includes one Active Membership and recognition at the Chapter for your company. This is limited to companies that employ Engineers. For every 12 students that a Corporate Member pays to send to class at NAPEEF, they will receive one free tuition!

Companies who elect to become Corporate Members enjoy the same opportunities as Associate Members with the additional following benefit:

  • Corporate members have the opportunity to earn tuition discounts for themselves or their employees assigned as members who are attending classes through the Educational Foundation. For example, there is no charge for tuition for a corporate member’s 13th, 24th, or 31st students enrolled each semester. This discount alone covers the cost of a single year’s Corporate Membership fee.

Please note: To receive tuition discounts through training offered by the Educational Foundation, students must be current engineer members of NAPE The Associate membership and the Corporate membership do not provide tuition discounts for employees.
